Why attend?

The Student Branch and GOLD (Graduates Of the Last Decade) Congress is a biannual event organised by the IEEE Region 8 Student Activities Committee. Over 300 IEEE student branches members, GOLD members and young engineering professionals from all over Region 8 (Europe, Asia and Africa) meet over four event packed days. The Congress is a melting pot of a variety of cultures and backgrounds, the perfect opportunity to share technical, social and professional experiences.

What do I have to do?

Write a business plan to improve the image of the QMUL IEEE Student Branch, and raise its awareness amongst students.

General Guidance

There are three major groups of student: undergraduates, Masters students, and PhD students. Identify ways to effectively reach these students.

What makes a professional organisation attractive to students?

Include a detailed budget that shows the cost of each action. Bonus points for getting quotes from external sources as applicable. (E.g. Asking a print-shop the cost of printing T-shirts.)

The business plan must be implementable by a Student Branch.


 

Competition Rules

Length: maximum 10 pages of content, this excludes Table of Contents, Appendix, etc. (Note: The appendix will not be judged.)

Contestants must be a member of The IEEE, and have Queen Mary University of London selected as your affiliation. (Check this on your profile page on the myIEEE website.)

Prizes

We aim to send as many participants as possible, this all depends on the number of submissions we get and the quality of the submissions.

For the highest quality submissions, we will pay the Congress fees (€280) plus up to £150 to reimburse the return travel cost to Belgium (receipts will be required). We also have prizes where we pay the Congress fees only. All winners are responsible for obtaining any visas or travel documents and their associated costs.
