Have you ever wished you could compete against the brightest young mind in the world and prove that you are one of the best programmers? Well on the 24th October 2009, you can do it!

The IEEEXtreme Programming Competition 3.0 is an innovative 24-hour global online competition in which you and a team of up to two other students can test your collective coding expertise simultaneously against other student programmers. Solve and win the world’s most Xtreme programming challenge and your team will claim ultimate bragging rights, be recognized as some of the world’s top up-and-coming programmers, and win an all-expense-paid trip to the IEEE event or conference of the team’s choice – anywhere in the world! Other prizes will include cool gear from the competition sponsors.
The competition will run from 1a.m. (London Time) on Saturday 24th October until 1a.m. on Sunday 25th October and the participants will compete in real time with all the other teams in the world! (last year 130 student teams from 31 countries around the world competed in IEEE Xtreme!)

If the competition is global and online you still need to be at an official venue to compete. Good news: here at Queen Mary the IEEE Student Branch has arranged a venue with computers, internet access, free food and drinks, etc. for the EECS students that would like to participate in the competition!

All the participants will receive gift bags from IEEE and the Queen Mary IEEE Student Branch will award additional cash prizes to:
– the first local team to register for the competition
– the local team with the youngest average age
– the local team achieving the highest rank in the competition

Registration is already open and will close next Monday (12th October 2009).
So hurry and register by sending an email to ieeeqmul@googlemail.com by Monday 12th October 7p.m. containing:
– the names of the students in your team (a team can contain up to 3 students)
– their programs and levels of study
– their email addresses and mobile phone numbers
– their IEEE membership numbers (if you are not a member just say so, but notice that you will have to join IEEE before the 24th October if you want to compete *)
Once we receive your email we will register your team to the competition and will assign a Proctor to your team **.

If you want to participate but don’t have any team mates, you can still participate in the competition (as a team containing only one participant). Alternatively you can also let us know that you are looking for team mates and we will find you some!

* Please do not register your team by yourself on the IEEEXtreme registration website as you won’t know the details about your Proctor. Contact us and we will assign a Proctor to you and will help you register :).
